Experts at AdGuard announced that the pirate mining formation, which uses several sites, infiltrated users’ computer processors to mine cryptocurrencies. It is estimated that the hackers have infiltrated the computers of about 500 million people. Subsequently, it was revealed that online streaming site ShowTime was suffering from the same Javascript code
However, AdGuard has released its new report that 220 sites are secretly involved in this scheme and that 500 million people are believed to be affected by pirate mining.
Many of these sites use CoinHive and JSEcoin analogues, especially prominent ones that admit to using users’ processing power to initiate the cryptocurrency flow.
These scripts run in users’ browsers to validate blockchain transactions that require significant computational resources. AdGuard estimates that the people behind these programs have made around $43,000 over the past three weeks.
